So you want to have a food drive…………

Here are some tips to help it be the most successful

  • Set a date for your food drive.  Two weeks is often an adequate length of time.

  • Publicize!  Publicize!  Signs and flyers should be posted in well-traveled areas.

  • Choose a method for collecting food.  Small sturdy boxes are best.

  • Double the value of your donation by delivering it directly to one of our food pantries.  Call for locations at 860-388-1988.

  • Thank everyone who participated.  Remind people that The Shoreline Soup Kitchens is always in need of volunteers.

Most needed items include

Canned meat, corned beef, spam, 100% Fruit juices, pasta sauce, canned fruit, oatmeal, rice, peanut butter, pasta, canned vegetables, breakfast cereal, macaroni and cheese, low sodium soups and stews.  Toilet tissue, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap

Creative Food Drive Ideas

  • Consider holding a neighborhood collection:  distribute flyers one week to your neighbors and collect food the following week.

  • Sponsor a food drive at your local school or company.  Give prizes to whomever comes in first.

  • Hold a scavenger hunt in your neighborhood for food. Give participants a list of food items and have them "hunt" for them at your neighbors or at local businesses.

The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries is committed to offering food and fellowship to those in need, and we thank you for being our partner in that mission.  For questions or additional information please call 860-388-1988 or email us at pdowling@shorelinesoupkitchens.org.  Again, thank you!
