Feeding the Hungry Along the Shoreline

get helpThe Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries is an interfaith service that provides food and fellowship to those in need and educates our community on hunger and poverty.

Big loser challenge makes SSKP a big winner!

Eighteen participants of the IFoundFitness River Valley Slim-Down lost 191 pounds and along the way, raised $400 to purchase canned goods for donation to The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries. The donation netted over 530 pounds of food for the Westbrook Pantry.

Thank you to Donna Scott of IFoundFitness, the participants of the River Valley Slim-down competition and to Jeff Prindle, Manager of the Deep River Adams Hometown Market who provided the food at cost.

The next Slim-down starts on April 23, 2012.

Thank you to the nursery school children who donated to the Clinton Pantry (as they do every year) to celebrate their 100th day of school.  They donated over 200 cans and sang a song!

Many thanks to the Chester Girl Scout troop for collecting donations from all over and making 82 Easter baskets for all the clients at the East Lyme food pantry!

The Old Saybrook 2012 Chili Fest was a huge success!  The Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce sells ballots to participants so they may sample the chili and vote for their favorite one.

The proceeds are earmarked for the C. W. Hunter Scholarship Fund and the winner's favorite charity. This year's First Place winner (second year in a row) was Angus McDonald/Gary Sharpe and Associates and they selected SSKP as their local charity.

Many thanks to them for their support and donation!

Dime Bank Foundation has awarded a $2,000 grant to The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries. The donation will enable The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries to purchase wholesale food for distribution to less fortunate residents in New London County through the Old Lyme Congregational Church Food Pantry and Meal Site and the Niantic Community Church Food Pantry. The programs operate every Saturday in Old Lyme and every Thursday in Niantic and are available to all year round.
